My Students

The students I will be teaching this year, range in age from 5-11. Like all children, they love to move, sing, dance and create. They yearn to engage in music education through technology and exploration of play and scientific inquiry.

I believe this is true, and we see it every day. Children learn how to cooperate, care, lead, follow, and be the best person they can be every time they play and work with others.

My Project

Children, as we know, are primarily self-absorbed, which makes sense, because they are still learning about themselves and how their interactions affect those around them. In the music classroom, I need them to understand the bigger perspective. Understanding their importance to the group, and not focusing on their individual piece or part, can be hard for some students.

We are each just one person; however, together we are stronger and can affect change faster.

Life is about leaning on each other and knowing others are there to support you in your personal journey or your musical part.

Well, that's what we will be doing with this project. The Dash and Dot accessories will allow more students to work with our 4 Dash and Dot robots and program them to play the xylophones and launch a ball, thus, allowing students to experiment with coding while interacting with others - problem solving! The camera drone is all about showing the bigger picture to the students. We will videotape ourselves as a whole. What does the WHOLE group look like and sound like from a larger scale? Are we in sync with our movements? How does one impact the whole?

Each one of my students is important to our group. Without one, the group would change. I want them to see themselves as part of our BIG community. I want them to see their value as part of the community of learners at our school. They each bring their own experiences to the group and we need the opportunity to celebrate it together, in the moment and in review. It's through the review that we can grow as a whole. Please help us problem solve, change the scale/perspective of our learning and add some robotic and technology to our learning!
