My Students

I work with fifth graders in an urban school in Philadelphia teaching math and science. Every year my classes change, but one thing remains: they all strive to succeed. I encourage conversation, self discovery and they never let me down! With the change in our class styles this year, more than ever these things will hold true. Giving each student what they need as individuals in order to succeed in what will be our “new” normal is my top priority. Then, when we can be face to face again we will be able to use our new projects and knowledge to go even further!

My Project

As I prepare my new home classroom I realize that there are so many things we won't be able to do from a distance. By getting more updated technology, the students will be able to work together remotely, make more dynamic presentations and have greater access to worldwide resources. I'll be able to share techniques and steps for problems and then students will be able to respond and use these resources to show their classmates their own ideas. I will be able to respond to questions and provide immediate help and feedback. This will also make it possible for me to have more than one break out group so that students can work together in their small learning community. When we go back to the clasroom this will become an invaluable resource for my students in small groups and even to do more advanced work themselves. It would be a huge help to a group of students and a school that would otherwise not have access to these supplies.
