Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Give this project a boost!
A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
I conduct home visits for my students. In doing this, I establish a personal connection with each child. I witness their home life and interactions among their family. I see that they come from families that are riddled with inter-generational economic challenges, language barriers, and a variety of immigrant stresses and legal issues. Collectively, my students are the embodiment of the kind of human goodness that is born from long-standing family struggles that are managed with sincerity and optimism.
Their families understand and prioritize the value of their children's education.
My students are responsible beyond their years. They look for ways to be of service and are respectful of the school environment and its authorities. Generally, they arrive at school punctually, ready to learn, to the point that ninety-five percent of my class received "Perfect Attendance" for the entirety of the 2016-17 school year!
After a unit study of American historical figures, a student of Mexican descent told everyone during morning circle that he wants to be Martin Luther King Jr. when he grew up. His sentiments were echoed by his peers. My scholars need your support to thrive as they grow into model citizens.
My Project
The children in my classroom are interested in exploring healthy food options and love learning about fun ways to eat them. Drinking our food is a very appealing concept to the them and I wish to make it a concrete way that they can enjoy nutritious foods and be able to care for themselves.
They will gather fruits and vegetables grown in our school garden and make things such as juices, smoothies and salsas.
With your help I can provide a prepared environment where they can have the small appliances needed to handle natural foods and make them into nourishing things they want to eat and drink.
