This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have been teaching at CHS for about 8 years and I am very passionate to change my students' lives. Chavez is a Title I school where students have socioeconomic disadvantages. As a Pre-IB ( similar to Pre-Ap) teacher, my main focus is to help my kids to have a higher standard and aim to attend colleges and universities. Most of my kids are their family's first generation to attend higher academic degrees.

As an IB, International Baccalaureate teacher, I have to be more than just a teacher but also sometimes their motivation and mentor.

Before I forget, International Baccalaureate is an international program that helps the student become knowledgeable professionals that are great communicators and are passionate to make a positive impact in the world.

My students are currently working on their math IA, Internal Assessment. Math IA aka Exploration is a math project that every IB student has to create. Every student will choose a topic (usually a problem they notice around them ) and seek a solution through math. This is a huge step for our kids to accomplish. Your support means a lot to their success.

My Project

This fast computer allows my students to use the RStudio software and work on real-life projects. The computers that we have are small with weak processors and limited RAM which doesn't allow students to do work on real-life IB projects.

As a math teacher in International Baccalaureate school we have to be able to use technology in our classroom and use the math principals we learn how to do on paper, also using latest softwares.

Rstudio is a great tool to analyze data on your computer. Students can apply all the statistics term we teach them using the software. Using Rstudio on the computers we have will often crash and will take so much time to process especially if students are working on real-life projects. I think we need at least on fast processing computer so that students can work on their project in groups in turns as the year goes. I am very excited for this piece of equipment because it allows me to apply math terms I teach my students on a software and it will expose students to a data/math processing, powerful ,and modern tool so they can use it in future as well.
