Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach in a small school with over 400 students that are multilingual learners from all over the world. Many of my students have multiple responsibilities outside of school, from working, taking care of their siblings to supporting their families financially and more, yet they manage to complete rigorous work in their classrooms. My students are the young people that challenge norms, and fight for justice in the work that they produce in our class and beyond the class.

My Project

Students in our school newspaper club will gather stories through interviews of their peers, teachers, administrators, families, elected officials and more but they need the tools to share those stories. In the past, they have interviewed people from all walks of life and written articles on topics such as Teenage Mental Health, College Debt, Sexual Harassment, Obesity, Gender inequality. A microphone set will help them conduct these interviews so that they can write articles as well as create short documentaries.
