Using Osmo As A Hands-On Learning Tool

My Students

My Kindergarten students are creative, thoughtful and full of questions! These littlest of learners absolutely love hands-on, active, and engaging lessons and activities. They come to school each day ready to try new things in order to grow both personally and academically.

My Project

Osmo is a hands-on learning tool that can be utilized by all of my Kindergarten children.

Osmo directly meets the four C’s of the 21st Century:

-Collaboration – Osmo’s open game play encourages interaction and collaboration, allowing for the development of social-emotional skills. Students learn by engaging, and with Osmo, teachers are able to promote open-ended interaction and learning through discovery.

-Communication – As students work together to overcome the different challenges in each app, they also learn cooperation, gain social and emotional understanding of their peers, recognize the strengths of others in the group, and foster leadership skills.

-Creativity – Osmo provides a platform for free-form expression. By incorporating real world items into game play, students are not limited by the apps’ programming. Unlimited solutions encourage students to think outside the box and find answers as unique as the students themselves.

-Critical Thinking – The different Osmo apps tap into a student’s curiosity and creativity to encourage hands-on problem solving and social skill development. Working alone or in groups, Osmo apps provide the right amount of challenge, pushing students to continue developing their skill sets and challenge themselves. It’s learning through play!

With Osmo, students can play a game with an interactive technology tool that isn’t solely on the screen. Osmo is both explicitly academically focused (ex: spelling, numeracy, coding) and has creative games (ex: drawing, music). As a learning tool, Osmo provides play-based experiences that stimulate language, curiosity, and collaboration. All Osmo educational games have physical game pieces to facilitate hands-on play which using digital media to increase interactivity in the game - this allows for blended learning!
