Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I would like to request a Bass Metallophone and an Alto Metallophone for use in my music classrooms. Using the Orff instruments allows students to experience and develop musical skills such as steady beat, rhythm, pitch relationships, (i. e. high/low sounds), and creativity. Playing these instruments also helps enhance coordination skills as students experience playing varied patterns in both hands. Orff instruments also provide students the opportunity to participate and perform as part of a larger ensemble. I teach classroom music in grades K-5 in Longview, Texas, with a mix of African American, Hispanic, and White children. I teach approximately 450 students out of an overall enrollment of about 500. I implement at variety of Orff instruments in all music classes in each grade. When I came to the school two years ago, many of the Orff instruments were in very poor condition and I had to repair them myself or they had some pieces missing that could not be replaced. I have found that using the Orff instruments as part of the overall music curriculum allows every student the opportunity to experience a variety of music skills as well as enhance physical coordination. I would greatly appreciate your consideration of this proposal. Thank you.
