Please help my students become inspired to learn math through the use of manipulatives.

This is my third year teaching and I have found that many students like hands on work when they are asked to perform a task. I continue to use technology on a daily basis by using a smartboard, projector, calculators, internet etc., but I feel that I don't have enough hands on material to give to the students to work on during their work period.

If students were able to work hands on they would be more motivated and the lessons would be more effective. For example, when working with percents or exchange rates, if students actually dealt with money then maybe they would be more motivated to work on the task at hand. When learning about measurements, why not have them actually use liquids to convert from gallons to quarts to cups? This would help them learn visually and kinesthetically.

Our students deserve to have every opportunity to learn in all ways possibly. Some students can learn just by reading it on a slide or taking good notes. Most however, need to actually do it hands on to understand.
