This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Welcome to my 5th grade classroom!

Our school is located in the Morrisania section of the South Bronx.

My students are my children and, as any parent would, I want the best for them!

Our school enrolls 97% economically disadvantaged students. Many of our children live in foster care, single-parent households, and shelters.

Of course, our classroom is a 2nd home for them, as they spend several hours with me and their peers. It is in a warm, engaging classroom environment where students grow not only academically, but learn how to deal with emotional issues and build social skills.

My Project

Students often are discouraged or reluctant when it comes to reading & writing. They don't get the idea that one writes to be read and that their voice matters! The solution... karaoke!

With a karaoke machine, students can be encouraged and more enthusiastic to read and write.

It will enable my students to practice reading, writing, speaking and listening skills, all at the same time. They will be eager to be celebrated authors in the spotlight, as well active supportive members in the audience.

Whether it's reading poetry, narrative writing or an opinion debate... using a karaoke machine, integrating this technology with reading/writing, is my inspiration for my students.
