My Students

Hurricane Harvey was devastating emotionally for most of my students. Many students lost everything that they owned as well as their pets. Some are still currently displaced. Although the storm occurred in September, the impact can still be felt when talking to my students. Despite the chaos the hurricane caused, my students have been resilient. They have the most amazing and diverse personalities. They are all quite characters.

They love to express themselves and take pride in doing rigorous work.

My Project

For students, any lesson that allows them to use technology is automatically considered the best day ever at school.

In my classroom, my goal is to create engaging lessons that engage my students and motivate them to elaborate and explore.

I would like to use iPad time as an attendance incentive. Due to Hurricane Harvey, a lot of my students' families are still displaced or without transportation. Sometimes coming to school is not the priority. Knowing that there is something as fun and engaging as an iPad waiting at school is just the motivation that my students need. With all of the days of missed instruction due to the hurricane and severe weather, I need as much time as possible with all of my students. Hopefully reminding their parents about their desire to use the iPad will help.

In addition, I would like for my students to use the iPad for creating digital content. I let my students teach each other because I believe that students learn best from other students. I would like for my students to create short math problem solving videos featuring skills including place value and counting coins.
