My Students

My students attend the most diverse high school in the United States of America. A majority of my students hail from impoverished backgrounds and will be the first in their family to attend college. Despite the challenges many of these students face, they come to school ready to learn and willing to do what it takes to succeed.

While my students may come from a variety of cultures, their commonality is their desire to excel academically.

FIRST Tech Challenge is the perfect program to help INSPIRE the next generation of innovators, scientists, community activists, and global leaders. The FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) provides the opportunity for students to learn the value of working together as a team to solve challenging and complex problems. Collaboration, communication, and problem-solving are skills students need to carry with them as they enter life beyond high school.

Funding our FIRST Tech Challenge program will help students build the confidence they need to succeed beyond high school in all areas.

My Project

FIRST Tech Challenge is the perfect program to help INSPIRE the next generation of innovators, scientists, community activists, and global leaders. The FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) provides the opportunity for students to learn the value of working together as a team to solve challenging and complex problems. Collaboration, communication, and problem-solving are skills students need to carry with them as they enter life beyond high school.

Currently, our robotics team is one of the few robotics teams in the state without direct access to a 3D printer.

As a result, we are limited to utilizing commercial, off the shelf (COTS) parts to build our robot. Using COTS limits our designs, and as more and more teams build customized robots, makes us less competitive.

Funding our FIRST Tech Challenge robotics program will help my students translate their robot design ideas into reality. Students will learn job ready skills such as Computer Aided Design and 3D printing. What is remarkable is that our program has enjoyed success using by all accounts "primitive" tools such as drills, allen wrenches, screw drivers, and ingenuity. We are hoping that funding of this project will allow our program the opportunity to utilize updated technology such as a 3D printer and enable us to bring our custom designs to life
