My Students

I teach in fifth grade in Queens, NY. My students are a diverse group of learners. Each student comes to my class with their own unique academic needs. This year fifth graders transition from in school learning to remote learning each day, making this a year unlike any other. With all of the challenges this school year has presented my students have persevered and remained motivated to conquer any challenge.

My Project

When students come into school, they often cannot bring in the computer they work on at home. Many students share computers with other family members or have desktops. Their classwork is online, but when they are in school, they are not able to access it. This is providing a lack of constancy, during what is already a challenging and inconstant time for students. Constantly switching from Internet based learning during their remote days and paper and pencil learning during in person days, is making it very difficult for students to stay organized and be successful.

Having access to a Samsung Chromebook in class will help ease the transition between in person and remote learning days.

Students who are unable to bring in devices will be able to use the classroom laptop to remain consistent between their schoolwork at home and in school. They will be able to continue the work they started at home the previous day in class, with assistance from the in-person teacher. Students who come to school without a device are at a disadvantage compared to their device owning peers. Having laptops students can borrow, while in school, will provide equity between all learners.
