This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My classrooms are full of students are joyful, hardworking, and fearless individuals who are willing to do what it takes to make our classrooms and our world a better place.

Ranging from 9th to 12th grade, my students are from all over the Bronx and are both excited to learn and be in community with one another, especially after a year and a half of being isolated.

To see my students in community with one another is nothing short of inspiring, and the goal of this project is to grow those community bonds even stronger.

My Project

It is my hope that we will use this memoir and book of poems to interrogate their individual identities, and then we will come together as a class and discuss and explore our collective identity. Too often, students read texts in class that they are not able to physically engage with because the school owns the books or they are a class set.

Your donation to this project ensures that each student in class has a book of their own to annotate in, ask questions of, and dive deeper into.

Then, once we have completed our study of the memoir and book of poems, students will be able to take these books with them into their lives outside of the classroom walls and return to them as tools for self-reflection and growth.
