My Project

As of the beginning of the 2022-2023 school year, 18% of the students in my school district are multilingual learners. An increasing number of this group are brand new to the country with minimal English proficiency and interrupted learning experiences.

Even though these students have interrupted schooling and limited English vocabularies, they still have life experiences and home language knowledge to draw upon as foundations for a rich classroom experience.

I would like unruled notebooks, markers and colored pencils, scissors, glue, and tape to assist my students in visualizing their new vocabulary and the literature we read in our ELA classes. Engaging in weekly art activities, such as mind maps, collages, word art, and illustrations, I hope my multilingual students embrace learning new English words.

This project will reach approximately 30 students this year, but the resources will be available for our MLs to use during the next few years.
