My Students

I work in a self-contained classroom setting, supporting middle schoolers scoring anywhere from the first to seventh-grade math level. My goal year after year is to successfully teach all of the required math standards, while also finding ways to fully support my students who are not quite at grade level. My students love to use technology, so I try to incorporate instructional videos and other online components into my students' learning. I absolutely love what I do, and constantly strive to better my teaching ability by attending professional development tailored to special education and mathematics.

My students are incredibly kind, hardworking, respectful, and have a thirst for knowledge that motivates me to go above and beyond to make their learning environment the best it could be.

I have found over the years that collaboration and the incorporation of technology are both the most motivating factors that drive learning in the classroom. I find that this is especially accurate in the special education setting, as many of my students are visual and kinesthetic learners. This year, I want to make it easier for my students to have quick access to this technology.

My Project

I am asking for an Apple iPad for my classroom to use in connection with my Promethean "Smart" Board. With airplay, I can mirror lessons, snapshots of student work, and anything on my iPad directly onto the interactive white board in my classrooms. Being able to walk around the room and connect to the board from a tablet wirelessly will help me to be able to navigate around the room more as opposed to standing up front for the duration of my lessons.

This feature is a great tool when trying to display other student work onto the board for the class to analyze and critique.

I can take a photo from the iPad of a students' work on their desk, and mirror it onto the large board up front for the class to see. I can physically annotate any of the corrections to the work right on my tablet in order to show the class what needed to be changed.

Additionally, this tablet with help alleviate some issues we have been having with our interactive whiteboard. Many times, worksheets won't upload onto the board, and will only do so when hard-wiring another device into the board. Sometimes, doing this will cause other features of the board to become disconnected, and it wastes precious time in class while trying to fix this. I work in middle school and travel to various classrooms, so lugging computer equipment around the school is very difficult. Having a tablet that will connect wirelessly will most definitely address this issue and help to create a more seamless transition from classroom to classroom.
