This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a first year Business Education Teacher at Central High School in Bridgeport Ct. Before becoming a teacher, I had a successful career in business , and believe I can offer my students reality based curriculum based on my 30 years of business experience. I am currently teaching Computer Applications, Accounting I and Accounting II, on a cart, which means I am traveling between multiple classrooms in the course of the school day. I do not have an assigned classroom , and I also do not have a computer of my own to use in presenting the curriculum. Computing,and the use of technology is key to success in today's business environment, and is becoming increasingly important in ones personal life as well. I am charged in our Bridgeport District mission statement with getting my students " college ready" and "ready for today's world". Readiness for both will require competence in Computing and the use of Technology. Computer Competency is also required by Connecticut State law as a prerequisite to graduate from high school. I would like to have an HP 530 -Core Duo T2300E 1.66 GHz-15.4" TFT Notebook Computer . The notebook will travel with me during the day to each of my classes. Having the notebook computer will alow me to use the portable Infocus projector (currently available in the Business Department) during the course of the class period to display PowerPoint presentations, show DVDs and Webcasts, and to access the Internet and Internet resources (pod casts etc). This capability is installed in most Corporate conference rooms and Business classrooms today as "standard". The students will benefit from the use of the notebook computer in the classroom in many ways. I will be able to more readily differentiate instruction during 90 minute block periods, keeping the students on task and interested. I will be modeling technology applications they will be using frequently in college and on the job,and they will find it fast paced and fun. Visual and auditory learners will benefit from the nature of the medium .Without the Notebook my lessons will be limited to the whiteboard and an overhead projector, which are obsolete solutions today, and which hamper my ability to deliver quality lessons. Bridgeport may be the poorest of the top 100 urban school districts, but our students deserve to have current technology modeled and used in their classrooms. Please help me make this a reality.
