My Students

Many of my students do not have access to books in their own homes.

My students come from a wide variety of backgrounds.

Many of them have never completed reading an entire novel. As a group, they are reading 2+ years below grade level. My students want to do well, and I am convinced that their reading will improve if they are reading. They will read high interest young adult novels that have been written for them.

My Project

I am requesting 40 high interest young adult novels for our classroom. Students will be able to check the books out and take them home to read. I have chosen a wide variety of books from authors including Sharon Draper, Alan Sitomer, and Ellen Hopkins. All students will be able to find something that interests them.

It is a fact that literacy is key factor in success after high school.

Helping to bring these high interest young adult novels to my classroom will make a difference in my students' lives.
