My Project

I am an elementary school, lower grade science teacher for K- 2nd grade. My students are very special people, who come to school with smiling faces ready to learn. They get so excited every week about coming to science class. My students come from many different backgrounds. Most families are from low-income households. The school is a Title I school which qualifies all of them for free breakfast and lunch. Most of them are recent immigrants and are English language learners. I try to give them many hands-on, real-life experiences during science class. We are currently learning about urban farming in the classroom using hydroponic systems.

This project will give my students the materials and supplies needed to continue growing live plants in the science room.

They are so excited to come to the science room each week to see the growth of their plants. This is also teaching my students about healthy nutrition, climate change, and sustainability. We need these supplies to continue this wonderful hydroponic system that we have.
