This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Upper body strength is a troubling and difficult thing to increase. My students fitness test with the arm hang and pull ups or push ups. This is the tests that they have the least success with. I am trying to find new and exciting ways to increase their upper body strength and this will do it!

My students live in low income houses, and attend a Title 1 school.

We get a very small budget each year to help fix some of the broken equipment that arise due to usage and age of the equipment. Because of the small budget, we cannot buy new equipment, but fix or replace what we currently have. My students know they are at a disadvantage with their upper body strength. They are learning about keeping track of their fitness scores and learning what areas they need to improve upon.

My Project

My students need battling ropes to help with upper body strength! We work on physical fitness daily. Out of the 5 days of physical education, 3 days are geared towards fitness. The students participate in fitness stations once a week. With fitness stations, we like to work on different areas of the body and finding upper body activities besides push ups or plank make exercising more fun! We also have Warrior Training days where students are pushed to challenge themselves to do activities that push them past limits they put upon themselves.

First, it will add more fitness stations to our weekly training days.

The students will get an amazing upper body workout, and have fun with new and improved activities. I am hoping that with concentrating on our upper bodies, the fitness scores for the arm hang, pull ups, and push ups will increase. The goal is for improvement from year to year.
