Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach in a low-income school in Echo Park California. My students are from low socio-economic families. The only chance my students get to use technology is in my classroom. They don't have the financial means at home to have the technology they need for learning. With outdated technology in the classroom, my students don't have access to new programs that will enhance their reading and STEAM learning.

My students get excited when they are introduced to new reading apps in the school's computer lab.

But unfortunately, we can't further their learning in the classroom because we don't have the technology needed to use the upgraded apps. The computer lab is only visited once a week and that is if the upper grades don't need it for testing.

My Project

These new iPads will help my students have access to new reading programs and apps that will help them become better readers. Our district is creating reading programs that connect to assessments taken in the classroom. The reading programs know each student's individual needs. Without upgraded technology in the classroom, my students don't have access to the programs.

The iPads will also be used to enhance my students' STEAM learning.

Robots can be moved through programs on the iPad. Science, art, math, and engineering apps would be downloaded for my students to use. The iPads would open a new world of learning for my students in the classroom.
