My Students

I teach at a public charter school. Our students come from diverse backgrounds with different needs. More than 75% of our students come from low socio-economic backgrounds and are on free or reduced lunch. Despite their obstacles, my students are full of energy and curiosity.

VPK and Kindergarten can be overwhelming for little ones, especially this year with COVID.

We are self-isolating in our classrooms. We do all activities including lunch in our classroom for limited interaction with other students and teachers. Recess is the only time we get to leave our classroom. My littles are full of energy and I want to offer them options on the playground to make that time special.

My Project

We are social distancing at our school. My students only get out of the classroom for recess. The tricycles, basketball hoop, and frisbees will allow my students to have fun new experiences on the playground. As a result of social distancing, we are trying to give each child an individual option.

These new playground options will help our students develop physically and socially while improving their gross motor skills.

Our students are 4-6 years of age so they are learning how to play together as well as how to play alone. We currently have a few things for the playground. This project would allow us to update our playground.
