Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am a new music teacher in the Bridgeport school system. I am trying to assist our 7th and 8th grade students, and betond, with their creative process. I have brought in some updated equipment that I own and have purchased a new sampling device for the classroom. Our needs for headphones, microphones and the like will help us set up our creative labs and allow the students to focus on their own creations. This benefits the quiet students the most, and it is very important to me that their voices be heard. I feel setting up these labs in the classroom will help them with their creative output. The building of “beats” uses sampling if older music and leads to discourse about various genres of music, music artists and instruments. Recording techniques are some scientific topics we will discuss and practice. The Podcast option allows our more outgoing students an option to learn about podcasting and to build ideas for discourse with teachers and their peers. It is very important as theses students are forming their own identities that they are given a chance to use their voices. It is important that they have the opportunity to create using their own interests and to interact and cooperate with like minded classmates. I feel we will be very successful in theis endeavor once we have the proper tools in place.
