Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Working at our school in Brooklyn is a dream, and it's all because of our students. While we are a Title I school, we're one of a handful of schools in NYC that only admits recent immigrants and refugees.

My students come from over 30 countries and speak over 35 languages.

This years seniors come from Bangladesh, China, Colombia, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Guinea, Haiti, Honduras, Italy, Japan, Mexico, The Philippines, Senegal, Yemen, and more.

Project-based learning, student choice at every turn, and collaboration among both students and staff are what makes our school run so well.

I have seniors, and I absolutely LOVE sharing time and learning from them in their final year of high school before heading off into the world.

My Project

It's time to update the technology in my room! I don't have a SmartBoard this year in my classroom, so I've been relying on an old projector (and a broken SmartBoard is used as a screen). While the Epson projector is amazing when it works, it often overheats in the middle of a lesson. I have several gift cards that I will use to get a new projector and a color printer.

I recently put up the 13 Black Lives Matter Guiding Principles and laminated them, and it has inspired me to add more color to my room.

Thanks to those who gave me gift cards earlier in the school year, I should be able to get these things ASAP.
