My Students

Every morning, we start off with morning work and then break off into groups. Students challenge themselves by reading independently, reading to a partner or writing like an author. It's a challenge when the text in your classroom library is not as engaging and is limited.

We are a first grade classroom with a thirst for knowledge.

We have a limited availability of funds and are currently sharing our classroom library with another class. The kids love to read and will read the same text several times. We are located in New York City and many students will only have the opportunity to explore texts in our classroom library.

My Project

We will be using the texts daily. We rotate through groups where students can read independently, read to a buddy or write like an author. A rich library filled with age appropriate text that is at their reading level is needed to help students become successful in acquiring the skills needed to be successful.

Students will be allowed to let their imaginations run wild as they dive into a new text and apply the skills that I am teaching them to aid in their comprehension of the text.

They will also use these skills and strategies to become stronger readers and learners.
