Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My class consists of 25 wonderful and curious students who are learning to read and use technology. Due to the pandemic, we have not been able to meet in person but I am meeting with them via Zoom every day. My students have so much potential and are missing some key resources. We are a Title I school and all of our students receive free meals throughout the day.

My Project

I have chosen incredible books for this project that will increase my students' awareness of the world, stimulate their imaginations, and teach them important social emotional skills. This project has many books with characters that are from all over the world. I have chosen books with Asian, Middle Eastern, Black, Latinx, and Women as main characters. My students will see themselves in the shelves of my classroom when this project gets funded. Additionally, I have chosen classic favorites such as "Dork Diaries" and "Harry Potter". There are also books that teach social emotional skills such as "How Full is your Bucket".

This project would bring a vision in my heart to life and into the shelves of my classroom library.

It is challenging to build a classroom library with new and relevant books and your generosity could make this happen for me. Students are more likely to choose a book if they are of high interest to them and I believe these books will meet that need. Additionally, I have requested a wooden display to feature different books during different times of the year such as the beginning of the year, or Black History Month.
