Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As a Special Education teacher, I can attest to these words by Franklin D. Roosevelt: "We know that equality of individual ability has never existed and never will, but we do insist that equality of opportunity still must be sought. " My students, though differently abled, are avid learners who delight in using manipulatives to enrich their learning experiences. It is my role to find opportunities that will continue to aid my students to be successful in their learning process. They are at their happiest whenever they are creating, constructing and modelling various objects in their quest for learning! What may seem like a small victory to some means alot to my students who aspire to be creators and innovators in society.
My Project
The manipulatives will ensure that all students are actively engaged in their learning process, and that they are each given an opportunity to explore their creativity and stimulate their critical thinking capacity in an educational environment.
The beauty of using manipulatives is that it gives every learner an opportunity to be successful, whether it is a simple project or complex piece, each student will have the opportunity to create and accomplish the tasks assigned according to their level.
Depending on the student and student needs, the manipulative's and lego's will assist my student in hand-eye coordination, improving fine motor and gross motor skills. The students will also use the manipulative's and Legos to improve their creativity and team building (social skills).
Verbal students will have an opportunity to share their innovation with their peers to improve their social and communication skills as well.
