My Students

My students are inquisitive and eager to learn. They show so much excitement and surprise when they learn a new concept in science. I love seeing the glint in their eyes when they see something they have read about, or heard about, come to life in their minds.

I do my best to give my students hands-on experiments and real exposure to things they may never see other than in our classroom.

Some of these children, due to economic and life situations, may never have the ability to experience science other than in their classrooms.

My Project

My goal is for my students that are economically challenged to experience as much hands on activities as they can. It is unlikely, if not impossible for most of my students to be able to purchase an owl pellet to dissect at school. This grant would allow all students to buy into their science education by experiencing the dissecting of owl pellets, compared to just reading about predator/prey relationships.

In a world of technology, catching a students attention is hard until they can truly see how science is connected.

By dissecting these pellets, one can determine what the owls have eaten. The purpose of this lab is to infer the type and number of prey animals the owls have consumed by examining the contents of their pellets. Barn Owls are carnivorous birds that hunt and kill other animals for food. This encompasses every concept we are currently studying.
