Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Reading has the power to inspire, transform and open doors to new worlds, but many of my students have yet to experience this magic. I want to foster a love of reading by introducing students to The Hunger Games, a novel that captivates and challenges readers with its dystopian themes of survival, societal change and conformity. This semester, I want to introduce my students to dystopian novels- an exciting genre that will captivate their imaginations while fostering critical thinking. My class of 21 includes mostly Latino boys, along with three incredible Latina girls. They are curious, insightful and full of potential, but many of them have yet to experience the joy of getting lost in a book they can't put down

As a first year teacher at a Title 1 school serving predominately Latinx students, I'm on a mission to ignite a passion for reading in my literature class.

My students are eager to learn and explore the world through literature, but access to engaging, high quality books is limited. Unfortunately, our school cannot afford new books, and our shared library does not have enough copies. In our school, we have three separate academies and share many resources. Many teachers such as myself have to share a classroom and library resources. That is why I'm reaching out to you. With your support, I can provide 21 copies of this engaging book, ensuring every student can participate, grow and discover the love of reading.
