Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I have the privilege of teaching an incredible group of third-grade special education students who inspire me every day with their determination and resilience. Many of my students face significant challenges when it comes to reading, but despite their struggles, they show up eager to learn, try their best, and celebrate even the smallest victories.

To help them succeed, I’m requesting a collection of books specifically aligned with the Orton-Gillingham method—an evidence-based, multisensory approach designed to support students with reading difficulties, including dyslexia.

These books will provide my struggling readers with the tools they need to strengthen their phonics, decoding, and comprehension skills, all while boosting their confidence and love for reading.

My goal for this project is to create a supportive, engaging reading environment where every student can make meaningful progress. With these resources, I will be able to deliver targeted instruction that meets each child where they are, helping them unlock the code of reading step by step. These books will also allow my students to experience the joy of reading stories they can successfully decode, fostering a sense of accomplishment and pride.

What makes my students special is their unwavering perseverance and their incredible hearts. They refuse to give up, even when reading feels tough, and they deserve every opportunity to thrive. With your help, I can give them the resources they need to develop essential reading skills and, most importantly, discover the confidence to believe in themselves as readers.
