Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

To help students thrive, we are requesting funding to expand our classroom library with high-interest graphic novels, bilingual books for newcomers, and Orton-Gillingham passage books for students struggling with reading.

In our classroom, we are committed to fostering a love of reading while addressing the diverse learning needs of our students.

High-interest graphic novels are a powerful tool for engaging reluctant readers. Their vibrant illustrations and compelling stories capture the attention of students, encouraging them to read more frequently and develop stronger literacy skills. By introducing these types of books, we can help foster a passion for reading in even the most disengaged students.

Bilingual books are essential for our newcomer students, many of whom are still mastering English. These books, which feature both English and their native language, will help bridge language barriers, build vocabulary, and promote literacy in both languages. This is crucial for ensuring that every student feels welcomed and supported as they transition into an English-speaking classroom.

Finally, Orton-Gillingham passage books will provide targeted support for students struggling with reading. These books are designed using the Orton-Gillingham approach, a well-known, evidence-based method for teaching reading to students with dyslexia and other reading difficulties. The passages will help struggling readers build confidence and improve their decoding and fluency skills.

Together, these resources will create a more inclusive, engaging, and supportive reading environment for all students, helping them to succeed academically and develop a lifelong love of reading.
