Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Many of my middle school students speak another language. I appreciate them for their resilience, creativity, and eagerness to learn despite the challenges they face. These students come from diverse backgrounds and bring a rich tapestry of cultures and experiences into our classroom. They are visual learners who thrive when they can connect language to images, making graphic novels an ideal resource.

The graphic novels I'm requesting will make a significant difference in their learning by providing them with engaging, accessible texts that help bridge the gap between their current language proficiency and grade level expectations.

These novels combine visual elements with rich narratives, making it easier for my students to understand complex ideas, build vocabulary, and improve their reading comprehension.

My goal for this project is to create a classroom library filled with graphic novels that cater to their interests and learning needs. I want my students to develop a love for reading, build their confidence in English, and feel empowered to express themselves. These resources will support their language development in an effective and enjoyable way, helping them succeed academically and beyond.

What makes my students special is their determination to learn and grow, even when the odds are against them. They are incredibly supportive of one another, often working together to overcome language barriers. By providing them with the right tools, like graphic novels, we can nurture their potential and help them achieve their dreams.
