My Project

Our school is a special place in a small, rural town in South Carolina. We're a close-knit community, but many of our 450 students in grades 3-5 face challenges like poverty and its effects. School is a safe and happy place for them - we provide learning, support, meals, and a sense of belonging.

As a Title I school, all of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.

Like many schools, we're working with tight budgets. While we get the basics, it's hard to afford those richer learning materials that can spark students' imaginations and deepen their understanding. That's where your help comes in!

We want to introduce our 5th graders to Lois Lowry's powerful story, Number the Stars. This book is more than just a great read—it's a window into World War II and the Holocaust. It shows kids the importance of courage, kindness, and standing up for what's right.

We'll create three classroom sets of books so every student can have a copy during the book study. This will allow us to read together, have awesome discussions, and dive into the story. We'll link the book to our social studies lessons, making history come alive and helping students understand this important time. This will help students connect with the experiences of others and build compassion and understanding.

Reading this powerful book will improve students' reading skills and vocabulary. Our students are bright and eager to learn, and this project will give them an unforgettable experience. These books will not only benefit our current 5th graders but will also create a lasting resource for future classes of 5th grade students. Your support will help us provide high-quality literature that inspires, educates, and empowers students to become thoughtful and caring individuals.
