This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Dear Supporters, my 2nd-5th grade artists love coming up with the cutest and most hilarious stories. They also love to draw! To support their growth, I am requesting a collection of step-by-step manga and comic drawing books that will provide them with step-by-step guidance on character design, panel composition, and storytelling. Together we can build a small drawing book library so students can bring their original stories to life.

These books will serve as both instruction and inspiration, helping students build essential drawing skills such as proportion, perspective, and expression.

Many of them love manga, comics, and cartoons but struggle to translate their ideas onto paper. The books will give them structured guidance to develop their characters. They will also encourage literacy by emphasizing the connection between visual art and the different parts of storytelling.

By the end of this project, students will complete an original short comic or illustrated story, applying the techniques they learn from these books.

My young artists are curious, imaginative, and eager to create. They love to draw their favorite characters and invent new worlds, but many have never had the opportunity to learn proper techniques for making comics and manga. With these books, they will gain the confidence to turn their ideas into real artwork they can take pride in, helping them develop not only artistic skills but also a lifelong love for self-expression. A huge bonus is that they will be able to work independently so they can craft unique characters and stories.
