My Students

Our school is a transfer high school. This means that we accept students who, for a variety of reasons, were not successful in their previous high school. Many of our students are looking for a second chance at their own education.

Starting over requires a strong community.

In our school, we have crew where students receive academic support and social emotional support. The students build a community together that holds them accountable to each other. Students are encouraged to go to their crew for the motivation they need to reach their goals.

In crew, students experience circles, academic counseling, and initiatives. Through these activities, students build a strong community.

My Project

Breakout Boxes EDU have been used in classrooms to build community and critical thinking skills. Imagine Escape the Room brought to a classroom! Our curiosity and drive to solve a puzzle motivates us to keep going through failure.

Students solve provided puzzles with content knowledge and collaboration.

With each new puzzle solved, a lock opens. The team cheers, celebrating one step closer to opening the box. The experience of problem solving through the puzzles implicitly teaches a growth mindset, and reflection on the process allows for students to become stronger collaborators and critical thinkers.

Our school will use these in our advisory program, crew, to build academic skills such as perseverance and grit as well as bringing the community closer together.
