My Project

I'm a special education teacher in a 12:1:2 setting. My exceptional students enjoy music. This is a time of day where they are able to express themselves in new ways. When they are unable to control their emotions, music helps them remain calm and relaxed.

Musical instruments would be a great addition to our classroom environment where students can explore and learn.

Playing musical instruments can support my students development. I would like to provide them the opportunity to utilize instruments to improve their language, memory and attention span. Music builds their confidence and self-esteem in the classroom, where they are able to stand up and showcase their talent playing the guitar or drums. Most of my students social skills are limited. I feel playing instruments would promote amazing social experiences. It would increase their social interaction, working in teams and collaborating in groups. In addition to learning different instruments it also inspires our families and the diversity of music, as students learn to understand the cultures of others.

My classroom consists of students with disabilities. Music is extremely helpful for them since it improves their cognitive capacities and sensory processing. Students would benefit greatly from having access to musical instruments in the classroom, particularly those homes experiencing financial hardship. I want to continue to provide them a learning environment that strengthens and supports their love for music.
