My Students

My students are some of the coolest students on the block. The amount of growth that takes place in my classroom daily is immeasurable. Every one of my students are dealt a different hand in life. Some are non-verbal, non-mobile and/or intellectually impaired.

This class teaches them the game of life and how to be an active member in the community!

My students have moderate to severe special education abilities. The abilities of my students range from cerebral palsy, blind, low-cognitive development, epilepsy, Down Syndrome, Autism, deaf and hard-of-hearing. Special education students are allowed to attend high school until the age of twenty-two. Once they turn twenty-two, they are sent on their own to either a group home, assisted living, or fully independent. Each student comes from a unique background; some are better than others. The class dynamics is a sight to see. The students genuinely enjoy learning about adult life and what they may encounter. They have learned how to cook simple breakfasts and lunches with verbal and physical prompts from classroom aides and myself. With assistance, they go out into the community and volunteer at various work sites in the community.

My Project

In the Adult Transition Education Class, our students attend different job sites in the community. I would like to create a uniform for the students to wear while out in the community. These sweatshirts will be screened with our school logo and "Employee in Training" on the back of the sweatshirts.

The cooking tools will be used for our functional living skills lessons.

Every Wednesday our students learn how to use different kitchen tools, go grocery shopping and make simple recipes.

The Kindle chargers are for the five Kindles we have in the classroom. Our students are not always as gentle as we would like. We have two chargers that have not worked for quite some time now.

The printer ink will be used to print curriculum. In Adult Transition Special Education, curriculum is one hundred percent teacher created. We need the ink to continue to print out forms, worksheets and resumes to give to future job sites.
