Last spring, you kindly sent my track team at PS 46M in Harlem, New York five bright yellow uniforms. I often refer to these yellow uniforms as "life preservers." They keep kids afloat while representing what is taught through track and field: independence, hard work, perseverance, dedication, and learning how to keep your head up after successes and failures. Shortly after receiving our uniforms, my team was selected as one of eight New York City teams to run at an elite track meet at Icahn Stadium on Randall's Island. Previous to receiving the uniforms, my track team participated in a city-wide track meet sponsored by the NYRR Foundation. PS 46M proudly accepted the second place trophy! The joy and pride on the faces of the children and parents as they accepted this trophy allowed me to understand why I started the team and why I continue to work hard to make it successful. We also came in first place for our division in the spring 2005 long distance race series. Over the season, the team learned how to set goals and work hard to accomplish them. With five uniforms and almost thirty members, I would like to order twenty-five more uniforms. All the children on the team have learned how to support each other through sportsmanship, and they all deserve a uniform (which will be collected at the end of each season for use the next season). Thank you very much.
