Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students from the South Bronx are rising athletes on the girls' varsity soccer team. These young ladies are some of the hardest working students I have ever met. They balance school, sports, clubs, internships, and family commitments and do so with joy and upbeat attitudes. Though many are new to the sport, these athletes do everything with such enthusiasm that they are happy just to play and even made it to the playoffs last season! It has been incredible to watch their passion and talent for the game grow over the past few years and to see new faces join the team.

We are now in our fifth year of competing and in need of new uniforms and other basic equipment.

With new uniforms and equipment, my student-athletes can play without worry! Our original uniforms are wearing away and need to be replaced. We also need basic equipment to improve skills while training. This project will help provide access to the game for students that don't have the resources to buy their own. These student-athletes have done some remarkable things in the Bronx and I cannot wait to see how far they will go this year and beyond!

My Project

This team is comprised of young ladies in the South Bronx that are enthusiastic about the sport and committed to improving their skills. In our fifth year, our original uniforms are wearing away and with increased participation, we do not have enough uniforms for every girl joining the team.

By supporting this project, it will allow girls in the South Bronx increased access to an organized sports team.

School sports are often the only way that girls get to play soccer in our community. New uniforms and training equipment will help get more girls involved and improve their skills! In addition, it will ease their worry of having to buy their own materials and allow us to expand the team! It has been amazing to watch the team grow as more girls become aware of the sport and our team. I have seen the positive impact that being a member of a team has on these girls and I can't wait to see how it can expand thanks to this project.
