This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our chorus is made up of 50 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students who love to sing. We would like to begin a music library but have no funding and are hoping to get folders and a storage unit to get us started.

My students live in a high poverty urban community in New Jersey.

They attend a K-8 public school with 100% eligibility for free lunch. They are enthusiastic learners and have a true love for music. Unfortunately, we do not have a budget for the music program and often have to go without essential elements.

My Project

If we received these folders and a rack in which to neatly store them, we could have organized and efficient chorus rehearsals. Each student would be assigned a folder for music storage and would be automatically prepared for a productive rehearsal. They will learn how to sing in unison, two-part, and simple harmony as they explore their musical abilities. Each folder would be numbered with a corresponding slot in the storage rack. This way, students would be able to see their personalized markings and notes on their scores every week at rehearsal.

Donations to this project will remind 50 chorus students a year that they are part of an important group: the chorus.

They will have an organized way to study their music and will hopefully choose to pursue music as they grow. I know that if my students get these materials, they will truly appreciate them.
