This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Understanding toxins in the environment requires hands on observations!

Our students are considered "at risk" and transfer to us from schools from around the entire city.

This school is based on experiential learning and we strive to make our classes and learning experiences relevant and hands-on. This approach is often successful in re-engaging the students in their school work.

My Project

How can a science classroom be lively without living creatures? This project will enable students to understand toxicity and the environmental effect of chemicals on our health and ecosystems by measuring the affect on lettuce seed and duckweed growth and on the heart rate of daphnia (water fleas) when they are exposed to doses of common household produces.

Our students will soon become active citizens in society.

They need the skills and experience of evaluating products' short and long term effects on the environment. In doing so, they refine their skills using the scientific method and data analysis. This class will hone their critical thinking skills and will enable them to understand the results of other scientific research.
