My Students

At Queen Anne Elem. students will use technology to browse, and listen to books or place holds on books. The library is ALWAY open. Besides reading and talking about books, you may see students creating book trailers, updating their on-line reading list or posting to their digital portfolio.

I believe our school is the best school in the world.

As a teacher of 23 years, having taught in over 10 schools, I can say that I do work with the best teachers in the world. We care about students and what they need to learn and succeed. Our students feel that they belong and have a voice. We value relationships and self- worth and know that each student is unique, coming from different places. Our students are given choices in their learning. They are given the best tools to learn, create and collaborate. Our students can learn anywhere, whether in the classroom, the library, outside classroom or in the hall. Our students share and connect with the world. They are becoming global citizens who are aware of the world outside their community. Our students create a digital portfolio to share themselves as readers, writers and artist with the world - they long for encouragement and questions about their work.

My Project

Our schools understands the digital world and how it connects our students to bigger ideas. To reach those digital native students we embrace technology as a powerful tool that puts knowledge into our palms. We are beginning to connect with the others and see our world as larger. We connect with experts who can teach us. We don't see the two billion on-line people as predators wanting to does us harm but as possible teachers who can share and answer our questions. We will use the Hank Zipper books in the library as a catalyst to start conversation in understanding a very large population of learning disabled students that process information differently.

Having books that focus on characters of different race, sexual orientation, learning styles, and learning disabilities will help them empathize with larger groups.

It opens their mind to the world outside their community. We value books that celebrate characters with physical and mental limitations and what they endured to over come those obstacles.
