Students at my elementary school are full of energy and a passion to learn. The students of my school are primarily African-American, Latino, or representatives of other minority groups. The school is in a Title I district and many of the students come from homes where they often go without. Many students show great potential and interest in the arts.
As the music teacher, I have the opportunity to teach every student in the school and foster the possibility of a more fulfilled life through an understanding of the arts and how they affect our place in this world.
By providing my students with hands-on learning opportunities and a comfortable learning environment, I am able to give my students the ability to take ownership of their music-making and learning.
My Project
My students and I were grateful to receive the beginning of a full class set of ukuleles from donors on Donors Choose last year. Now that we are all back together in school, our class sizes have grown and we do not have enough ukuleles for each student to have their own in class.
Your donation will ensure that every student has their own ukulele to learn on in music class and replacement strings for when they need replaced.
Learning ukulele has been many of the student's favorite thing to learn in music class. Learning the ukulele gives students ownership of their musicianship and an excellent mean to make beautiful music.
