it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach almost half of the classes music at my school, all grade levels from Pre K to 5th grade. This school has not had a music program for almost two decades. I would love to incorporate a "modern band" program where students can learn to play ukulele, guitar, bass, piano and more. Developing muscle memory and small motor coordination is essential at this age. Students will also make literacy and math connections that will increase cognitive abilities not only for school, but for a lifetime. For this year, I would like to start with a class set of Ukuleles for 2nd to 5th grade. I hope to expand every year with more instruments!
My Project
With your support, students will be able to perform on a legitimate instrument and develop small motor function and muscle memory at a young age. Students will play in class once or twice a week. The Ukulele is the perfect instrument for small students, who will be able to perform with them in concerts! The music stands would be extremely helpful -- it can be damaging to look down while playing an instrument, which can result in neck injury. Students will be inspired to practice and put knowledge of reading and understanding music to a real instrument. They will learn about and develop the ability to read, compose and improvise music! There is no doubt that this will inspire many students to pursue music throughout their lifetime!
