My students attend a large elementary school, with a student population of roughly 615 students in kindergarten through fifth grade. They love performing music, composing music, and moving to music.
My students are active musicians who play instruments, sing, and dance in music class.
They light up as they gain musical skills and knowledge. My students exude energy and excitement when they apply those skills and that knowledge to compose rhythm compositions and songs. The more hands-on experiences students have, the better equipped they are to express themselves through their musical compositions and performances and to become lifelong musicians.
My Project
5th Grade students are incredibly excited about playing ukulele and their excitement is translating into hard work and very impressive progress. Many of them have already learned 9 chords and are able to play a variety of songs using those chords.
They are ready for and asking for some additional challenges to help them grow their musical skills.
We are in need of picks so students so students can learn to play with them and be able to play for longer periods of time without tiring their fingers. We are also in need of containers to store the picks in. We are lucky enough to have some clip-on tuners, but could use more tuners so tuning can take place more quickly and students can spend more time practicing. We also need replacement batteries for a number of the tuners we already have. As we increase the number of tuner we have, we will also need storage for these as well.
My students will be using tuners and picks in class daily as they start tackling songs of their choosing and learning even more chords and strum patterns. The luggage tags will help us label all of the ukulele cases so we can stay better organized - this ultimately helps us spend more class time playing and learning instead of taking out and putting away materials.
