Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students at Arts and Tech High School are creative and imaginative. Arts and Tech is not a specialized art high school where you need to take a test or have a portfolio to get in. Our students are the ones who really like art but have not had the same opportunities available to them as other students, such as private art classes and tutors. It is a title one school, which means most students who attend come from low-income households. We try to give them the experience of art-focused high school and help them to develop a portfolio for college. The students at Arts and Tech get at least one art class each year of high school. We are a small school, but we try to offer students as much variety as possible by offering classes in digital and fine art.

My Project

I teach graphic design and students are learning at home. I do lots of demos for students on Zoom and it can be difficult to do demos while having all the other windows open on a small laptop screen. A second monitor would help me to be able to teach my students more effectively. That way I can use one monitor to keep Zoom open and all its features, such as the video and chat, plus other things such as Google Classroom and the attendance website and use my laptop screen to have the graphic design program open so that I can show students how to create graphic design projects.
