My Students

Begin by writing a letter to the Student of the Week to build connections and recognize our differences. Our day is filled with opportunities to challenge our understanding of the world through visible thinking routines, workshop model learning, and continual self-reflection.

Our class has a wide-range of students from all over the world.

We are a Title 1 school in the 7th largest urban school district in the U.S. Even with these challenges, our school has the top scores for closing the achievement gap in the State of Texas. Although we are different, our common goal is to take our learning higher through critical thinking and the inquiry-based model. Most of our students are from a lower socioeconomic background and some of the parents do not speak English. We are working together to build a community of learners that can transfer their learning on a conceptual level to new situations, so they will be prepared for the workforce in the future.

My Project

The students will focus on using the iPad Minis to research for their units of inquiry. These are interdisciplinary units that look at certain topics through a conceptual lens, so they can be applied in different disciplines. The students will use the iPads to research, check their information, and make connections through the use of multi-media. In addition, they will use them for independent research during Genius Hour where they find out information about a topic of personal interest. They create passion projects that are presented to the class and eventually the world.

The donation will help my students to have access to the latest technology every day, instead of once a week on bring your own device days.

Our class currently has a few laptops, but they are quite old. With the variety of technology, students will be able to access a broad range of information and apply it to their daily lives. More importantly, they will be able to manage apps, create videos, voice threads, blogs, and other mediated activities.
