My Students

My students are trying to meet the demands of reading, writing, speaking, and listening in English to pursue an education beyond high school. Part of meeting these demands means that I have to supplement technology, resources and literature to help them meet these demands with the most up to date resources. My students have the heart, the motivation, and the willingness to work hard to meet the demands. I just want them to be afforded all the resources to meet their learning style and learning needs.

My Project

The novel The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind serves as a lesson socioeconomic status does not determine our fates. We have skills and talents to offer our community beyond measure. A Long Walk To Water invites students into an inspiring reminder of the value of overcoming struggle with a current social justice themes Students will connect these characters hardships to challenges they have overcome and thrived.

These inspiring and thought-provoking novels will be used with my 7th grade reading elective.

We will learn about the struggles of kids their own age in other parts of the world. It will remind students, as Maya Angelou said, "We are more alike than unalike." My wonderful seventh grade students will learn about characters from far away places they have only heard about. This will be a lesson in history, geography and literature. They can read them in class and share what they connect to in Flipgrid conversations to teach others about these novels.

We will read these novels in Literature Circles and react to what we read in a way that a traditional reading experience does not often provide. In the novel A Long Walk to Water serves as a inspiring reminder of the value of overcoming struggle.

The novel The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind will inspire students to be the change they wish to see. The novel Long Walk to Water will remind students of the commonalities we all share.
