Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

We are a school serving newly immigrated students, there is a tradition to create a storytelling project in their Art and English classes.

For this, our 12th grade students will interview elementary students from a nearby elementary school to create a children's book.

With this information, students will work in pairs to create a story for the younger students around a social justice theme (i.e. immigration, bullying, climate change, girls' empowerment).

With the materials in this order students will be creating original illustrations in various art mediums and learn book binding techniques such as Japanese stab binding, accordion, wrap-around spine, glued spine. Students will also strengthen their understanding of story structure, character development and use of figurative language.
