Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I teach about 550 students in an elementary school that has 56% low income families. My students include students in Kindergarten-5th grade. There are two music teachers teaching around 700 students. We also have the dual-language (students are learning Spanish and English) program at my school and have 39% of the students who are English language learners. My students are very involved in music. Many of them take piano, drum, voice, or guitar lessons. I also teach an Honor Choir before school with 40 singers and we have an after school drama club that puts on a musical every year. This is my first year in this school district and I love seeing how excited my students are about learning and participating in music.

I would like to purchase a music carpet for my students to sit on during class, as well as to use to teach music skills and concepts.

Currently, the students are sitting on the uncomfortable floor for class. I use Velcro spots to mark their seats, but the spots are easy to move around and they curl up on the edges as they get older. This music carpet will help us to play music games and learn to read music notes. The carpet has a big music staff in the middle as well as many musical symbols that will increase the students' learning.

Please help my students out, by donating to the purchase of this beautiful carpet that will increase their learning and fun, as well as provide a more comfortable place to sit for music.
