My Project

Gifted students thrive on problem solving and helping others. My Spotlight students are no different. They are an eclectic group of diverse personalities and strengths. One issue that arises among our student population is a lack of proper hygiene. Poor hygiene can lead to low self-esteem. For this project, my students will design a booth for our school's annual "Trunk or Treat" Literacy Night to be run by gifted student volunteers. Each child that comes through their booth will receive a toiletry item of their choice. By giving children the opportunity to choose and receive these protects, they take charge of physically taking care of their own needs.

When children feel clean and refreshed, their confidence and self-esteem get a boost that helps them become more productive in school.

Our Title 1 school is located in one of the most economically challenged areas of our county. Resources to support physical, mental, and emotional health are often hard to come by and even harder to fund. This project will promote communication skills, effective learning, and community awareness in ways that cannot be learned within the four walls of our classroom. By serving the community at this outdoor event, my students will see for themselves the faces of the people who make up their community and will feel proud of the effect their products have on others.
